 Bottom Pan and Transformer Set
Here is a short custom run at the early stage of mounting the transformer set.
The bottom pan of the chassis is heavy gauge aluminum with welded corners. The transformers are mounted at the ends near the corners where the deck is most rigid. I use aluminum for my chassis to avoid magnetic effects of mounting the transformers on steel. Perhaps I’ll try stainless at some point…

The CL45 is a fixed bias output section amplifier. Facility for bias measurement and adjustment is provided on the rear panel. The range of the bias control allows setting up the amp with a selection of output tube types. The tonal differences between output tubes are fairly evident in the Channing Classic Series, so you can find a texture that suits your playing style. I’ve tried several new production tubes and a few NOS tubes and will have a recommended tube list at some point, but for now I’ll say that I liked (in alphabetical order to avoid any clues toward preference):
Groove Tubes EL34 (The GE copy), JJ KT66, JJ KT77, TAD 6L6WGC-STR, Winged C EL34
There’s also some real voodoo to the NOS GE EL34/6CA7’s I’ve been keeping in their boxes (session use only) for the last 13 years. I’ve gotta find some more of those!
CL30 and CL45 at Burn In
At final fit, the amps are burned in and play tested. This is the best part of the job. It’s important to have friendly neighbors.
 Player's Perspective CL45 and One 2x12
